Islamic Finance fringe event at Conservative Party Conference

On Tuesday 1 October 2013, the Associate Parliamentary Group on Islamic Finance and Diversity in Financial Markets held a fringe event “The importance of Islamic Finance in UK Growth.”

The event was chaired by Lord Sheikh, Vice Chair, Associate Parliamentary Group on Islamic Finance and Diversity in Financial Markets. Chairman of CMF.

The other speakers were:

  • Nigel Denison – Director, Head of Wealth Management and Treasury, Bank of London & The Middle East (BLME)
  • Professor Nora Colton – Dean Royal Docks Business School, University of East London
  • Mohammed Amin – Islamic Finance Consultant. Previously UK Head of IF at PwC. Deputy Chairman of CMF.

The speakers explained the current state of the Islamic finance industry in the UK, the types of transactions being undertaken and the scope for Islamic finance to aid UK growth.
