CMF Youth Chair, Hashim Bhatti organises interfaith fringe reception at party conference in Manchester  – Sunday 29th September

On Sunday 29th September 2019, Hashim organised the first ever interfaith reception which was co-hosted with the Conservative Christian Fellowship in Manchester at Bridgewater Hall.

The aim of the reception was to thank faith communities for their positive contribution to society as well as acknowledging the social impact their work has on our local communities, across the UK and globally

The theme for the reception was religious freedom and unity.

Keynote speakers included the following:

  • Shaun Bailey – The London Mayoral Candidate 2020
  • Joy Morrissey – Councillor in Ealing
  • Roberto Weeden-Sanz – Councillor on Barnet Council
  • David Walker, The Bishop of Manchester
  • Maqsood Ahmed – CEO of the British Heritage Centre in Manchester

The event followed the successful launch by Hashim of the first ever interfaith reception held at party conference in Birmingham in 2018.

This week, CMF have been campaigning for Iain Duncan Smith (Chingford & Woodford Green), Jo Morrisey (Beaconsfield), Damian White (Dagenham and Rainham) and Connect Calling with Lord Michael Dobbs, Andrea Leadsom and Lord William Hague.

We also joined Sajid Javaid and Clllr Arnold Saunders visit Islamic Centre, campaign with James Daly (Bury North) and with Paul Bristow (Peterborough).

The Conservative Muslim Forum were delighted to pick up an award at The London Faith & Belief Community Awards 2019 held at the Royal Society of Medicine on 26 November 2019, in recognition of interfaith work and bringing communities together.

We extend our gratitude and thanks to our colleagues in the Conservative Party for their support.

Thank you to Suzy Webb, Faruk Miah MBE and Kam Ali for attending the award ceremony last night on behalf of the #CMF.

We condemn the terrorist attack and offer our condolences to the families of the two victims who sadly lost their lives and offer our prayers for the wellbeing of those unfortunate persons who have been injured.

We also pay tribute to the brave members of the public whose heroic actions and bravery have saved many others lives.

We commend the Police and other agencies for their prompt actions in dealing with a very difficult situation.

It is written in the Holy Quran.

“Whoever kills a person it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.”

We would like to state that what Usman Khan has perpetrated is totally against Islamic beliefs and values.

It is imperative that all the communities stand together to condemn what happened and we should join hands to combat acts of terrorism and radicalisation.

The Conservative Muslim Forum welcomes the Government’s proposals to strengthen our sentencing laws so that terrorists and other serious offenders serve a full prison term commensurate with the crime to keep our streets safe. We also call on the government to re-visit the role of the probation service and have an active system for rehabilitation of convicted offenders.

We would also ask the government to review its ‘PREVENT’ strategy in line with our President, Lord Sheikh’s proposals and speeches in the House of Lords.

We in the Conservative Muslim Forum are very keen to build peace and harmony within all the communities and will continue our  interfaith work.

The membership of the Conservative Muslim Forum is open to everyone in the country.

Thank you to everyone who attended last Thursday’s connect call evening. It was amazing to have so many members making calls, catching up with old friends and making new ones.

Join us every Thursday evening from 6:00pm and join hundreds of volunteers, who are already picking up the phone and calling to combat Corbyn.

Thursday evening is about getting as many callers as possible making calls across the UK on the same day! So, will you get involved?

Why is calling so useful? Not only are you directly engaging with voters about their local issues, but you are helping to build a relationship between them and the Party.

Join us, local activists, party members, MPs, family and friends, in making the calls that count!

Executive Member of the Conservative Muslim Forum, Dr Haq Nawaz joined friends to campaign for Paul Bristow, the Conservative Candidate for Peterborough.

Paul is the Son of a local NHS nurse and an army officer who was raised in Whittlesey and lives locally in the city centre.

Paul runs his own small business helping charities and patients campaign for greater access to life changing therapies and technologies within the NHS. He was previously Chairman of the Linford Christie Trust, where he helped young athletes get the support they need. Paul works with Brain Tumour Research and UK Sepsis Trust amongst other charities.

Paul supports the Prime Ministers deal on #Brexit whilst Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour M.P. has voted to block BREXIT – the Labour Party does not believe in Britain leaving the European Union. Their proposed Brexit deal would be a choice between Remain-minus and Remain which they would put to a second referendum causing more division and chaos.

That’s why we need Paul Bristow as someone who is going to stand up for Britain, and not seek to keep us in the E.U. against the peoples vote of 2016.

✅ Get Brexit Done.

✅  Unleash Britain’s Potential.

Find our more about Paul’s plans here https://www.paulbristow.org.uk/myplan

CMF Executive Member, Suzy Webb was honoured as a guest at the and Peace March at the Morden Ahmadiyya Mosque. This was an historic occasion as it was the first ever which has been launched from a Mosque in this Country. It was a lovely evening with representatives from Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, Chelsea Pensioners, local and national politicians, The Royal British Legion, and other invited guests.

It was very special when the stage was taken by all the children present. A full and moving ceremony was performed, including the Last Post. We heard personal stories from the descendants of the thousands of combatants from the India sub-continent who served with distinction alongside British troops.

Last year the Ahmadiyya Mosque raised half a million pounds for the Poppy Appeal and their youth section will be doing a peace march and collection for this year. One of their more senior members personally collected £39,000 last year. ‘Love for all and hate for none’ is the Ahmadiyya motto. They really do set a wonderful example of community engagement and harmony.

The Executive Committee of the Conservative Muslim Forum met on the 10th October 2019.

They noted the UN Human Rights Commission and Council’s update of 9th September 2019.  Great concern was expressed at the catastrophic suffering of the population of Indian held Kashmir resulting from the lockdown since 5th August 2019.

The shortage of necessities such as medicines, food, and lack of communication are particularly worrying.

The UNHR has made their position clear.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms Michelle Bachelet Jeria in her opening statement at the 42nd session of UNHRC Geneva 09/09/2019.

“I am deeply concerned about the impact of the recent action by the Government of India on the human rights of Kashmiris including restrictions on internet communications and peaceful assembly and detention of local political leaders and activists…”

“…I have appealed to India to ease the current lockdown of curfews, to ensure peoples access to basic services, and all due process rights are respected for those who have been detained. It is important that the people of Kashmir are consulted and engaged on any decision-making process that has an impact on the future….”

We ask our Government to assist in improving the humanitarian situation resulting from the lockdown, to enable the population to obtain food, medicines and the lifting of the communication shutdown to alleviate the suffering.
